Is there a downside to
accepting responsibility?

Accepting responsibility can be one of the most powerful decisions that a person can make.

Rather than playing the victim and believing that they are a product of circumstances, thus giving up any chance of ever having control, a person that accepts responsibility effectively grabs the wheel and can then dictate where they will go.  They get to control the situation.

While accepting responsibility is liberating and an absolute necessity if you want to make any type of change in your life, is there a downside to it?

I don’t know that I’d call it a downside as much as a dark-side.

Coming to the realization that there is no one else to blame for the any results or unhappiness you are experiencing in your life can be a huge burden to carry.

A weight too heavy for many people and those that do choose to often beat themselves up about.

It’s easy and even comfortable to stay in an unhappy situation when you can blame someone else for your being there.

The problem with that is; you stay stuck in that position unless other people get you out.  You are a passenger going along for a ride without any input or control.

Yes, accepting responsibility can be difficult but it is worth every ounce of discomfort.

If you want to make a change then you need to be the change.

You can’t beat yourself up about things that have happened in the past.  Besides, that not who you are, that’s who you were…

Accept Responsibility!  And choose who you want to be and dammit, go get it!
